"If you're going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance."

---------------
A defense mechanism.
The human body ultimately wants to protect itself from injury.
While there are tons of questions about mind-body dualism,
can we break out of the defense mechanism?
--------
Why walk on ice?
The thickness of the ice is uncertain.
The depth of the water beneath is uncertain.
What are the chances of falling in?
What are the chances of being able to get help after falling in?
And so you may convince yourself not to question the latter
as the former has not even happened yet.
Does that mean that it wouldn't?
Do you still take the risk?
You will never know until you take the first step.
Slow, and steady.
--------
But deep down, I'm afraid of falling.
Innately, I'm afraid of the cold.
Can I choose not to step out on the ice?
Can we just hug instead?

M.
the white stripes blur and ease my mind.
when all that's left is a single light,
instead of this confusion.
